Another grazing season in the Kampinos National Park is coming to an end

Kampinos National Park conducts extensive grazing in marshland areas as a form of protection for non-forest ecosystems, covering an area of 50 hectares as part of the “Kampinoskie Bagna 2” project. Because the area is under protection, preference is given to native breeds: Polish Konik horses, Polish Red cattle, and Polish Black-and-White cattle.

The Polish Konik is a representative of the so-called primitive animal breeds. These horses are hardy, well adapted to difficult terrain and resistant to disease. They can tolerate low-quality fodder and remain outdoors throughout the season. For their welfare, all animals are under veterinary supervision.

Grazing is carried out in a compartmentalised system, which allows control over stocking density in specific areas and facilitates herd management.

Local farmers who own animals of the preferred breeds have been involved in this pilot programme, which is an additional benefit of the initiative.
